Psychotherapy and Counselling

What Psychotherapy and Counselling can help with

People may turn to therapy when they are stressed, confused, experiencing a crisis in their lives, having difficulties in relationships or are feeling depressed. Some of the problems psychotherapy can help with include:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
  • Coping with loss and life changes
  • Destructive patterns of behaviour
  • Lack of purpose and direction in life
  • Isolation, lack of meaningful connection with others
  • Trauma
Psychotherapy and Counselling not only address problematic experiences but can also support you in discovering your aspirations, creativity and a deeper sense of connection with life. You will have the opportunity to talk about your own situation and prioritize your needs and wishes.

Sometimes when people begin therapy they are not clear what they want or may be feeling confused about what the difficulties are. You are not expected to begin with answers! You will have plenty opportunity to explore the difficulties without being judged, no matter how big, small or intangible your problems feel.

How Psychotherapy and Counselling can help

I provide a supportive and confidential environment in which you can explore your experiences. These may be long standing difficulties in your life, or specific problems you are currently experiencing.

Psychotherapy is a journey of self-discovery that can enable a greater sense of connectedness, acceptance, value and purpose in life.

  • Ongoing psychotherapy provides the opportunity to explore in-depth underlying patterns of thoughts, feelings and beliefs affecting your current experiences. The contract is usually open-ended.
  • Short term counselling is usually arranged for a contract of between 6 –18 sessions and focuses on specific issues you would like to address. You will have the opportunity to explore your experiences, clarify your own situation and identify any changes you wish to make.

Counselling can help you to gain new perspectives and greater self-understanding that enable you to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

We begin with an initial session to explore how therapy can help, what you are hoping to gain and to clarify the appropriate route for you. We will also review the sessions on a regular basis. Sessions are usually arranged on an ongoing weekly basis.  I work individually with adults and young people, as well as with groups.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about how I work.
